I went and saw Transformers One. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was entertaining, and the film had plenty of humor, action, and tension. The tense lead-up to the rivalry between the main characters, Optimus Prime and Megatron, was well done. Sometimes, a backstory about characters in a franchise may be unnecessary. Not knowing the backstory may sometimes create an air of mystery. However, in this case, the backstory of the two main characters was well written and shed light on the drama between the characters.

The film had many themes running throughout the story. One theme in particular is one’s sacrifice for the greater good. Orion/Optimus Prime sacrifices himself to save the planet and its inhabitants. Another prevalent theme was equality amongst all walks of life. The autobots fought for the freedom of all living things with great compassion.

The animation was crisp, clean, and vibrant. The detail of the characters and scenery was amazing, and the animation helped keep your attention. Even the voice acting was well done.

Trivia

• Megatron's original name D-16 is a reference to the Japanese serial number of the original Generation 1 Megatron toy released by the company Takara in 1984. The letter D is short for Destron, the Japanese name of the Decepticons used in older media.
  
• Chris Hemsworth worked with Peter Cullen (the original voice of Optimus Prime) to get the right voice for a younger Optimus Prime.
